Gudhamangdhuray Gang – 'We Still Belong' (Cootamundra NSW)

Desert Pea Media proudly presents Gudhamangdhuray Gang – “We Still Belong”

Created on Wiradjuri Country in the community of Cootamundra (NSW), We Still Belong is a powerful new music release grounded in culture, identity and collective storytelling.

The project was developed through a collaborative process led by Desert Pea Media alongside students and staff from Cootamundra High School, in partnership with local First Nations Elders, Knowledge Holders and community members.

In November 2025, the DPM Creative Team was invited to Cootamundra as part of the Gudhamangdhuray Community of Schools initiative — a partnership between Cootamundra High School, Cootamundra Public School and E.A. Southee Public School. This work aligns with the “Walking Together, Working Together” agreement between the NSW Department of Education and the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG).

Delivered through a five-day intensive project at Cootamundra High School, the project created a safe and inclusive space for intergenerational exchange. Young people, Elders and community members came together to yarn, share stories and explore themes of history, culture, Country, wellbeing, identity and pride — shaping a collective vision for a strong and positive future.

For over 20 years, Desert Pea Media has worked alongside communities across Australia to amplify local voices through music, film and digital storytelling. This project continues that legacy — empowering participants to tell their stories, on their own terms.
